What is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

Short answer is it depends on where you are from. If you are from Québec, both titles mean the same thing. They are both protected by the Ordre des diététistes-nutritionnistes du Québec (ODNQ), A dietitian/nutritionist is a health professional that has completed about 4 years of theoretical and practical training at an accredited university. If you are from other parts of Canada or the USA, the term dietitian (also shown as Registered Dietitian or RD) is most commonly used to indicate regulated nutrition health professionals.

What happens during the initial consultation?

The first time we meet is a great chance for me to get to know you better. During the first half of the consultation, I get to know more about your medical history, eating habits, lifestyle, as well as your priorities. The second half, we dive into what your nutrition goals are, and I can offer recommendations to help guide you on the path to achieving those goals.

Can I see you in person?

Currently my practice is all virtual. This has become practical and essential during the pandemic. If you prefer a more personal touch, video conference allows us to put a face to a voice. Click to read more: Services.

Are your consultations covered by insurance?

Dietitian consultations are covered by many private insurances. Contact your insurance company to find out more.

Do I need a referral from a health professional?

No. Dietitian consultations do not require a referral from a health professional.

How do I pay?

I accept Interac© email transfers as well as payment by credit cards.

Do you provide meal plans?

I rarely will use a pre-made meal plan with my clients. They are occasionally used at the beginning as we try and recalibrate our eating habits. It is not something that I use automatically or rely on as I have found it doesn't actually provide much benefit to my clients long term.
